Climbing St Veronica’s Hill, Tamparuli
February 5th, 2010Towards the end of 2009 I went up Bukit Perahu / Bukit Ruhiang / St Veronica’s Hill in Tamparuli. However, I went late, only reached the halfway point as it was getting dark.
Started around 5.25pm, this is the signboard:

From the main road, the way up looks like this:

Even halfway up the view is already magnificent, like this photo of Jambatan Tamparuli I took after around 20 minutes of climbing:

The hill is used by Roman Catholics to do the Stations of the Cross, the 7th station (out of a total of 14) looks like this:

The view beyond:

I shall be back to finish the job.
It’s definitely a harder and longer climb than Bukit Padang. I think it’d take around 45 minutes to an hour to climb, although I saw a young man RUNNING up and down the hill in no time – the hill is surely his fitness equipment!
MrBokiu took a photo from the very top.

this is a dangerous place especially women and ladies if they climb that hill alone!!!
Banyak semak samun!!!! bahaya bossss
Dont worry. Since there are lots of crosses there, Jesus will protect all climbers there, I believe that. :D
May I please know how to reach the starting point? Is it once you pass Tamparuli town (just before the old bridge) take a left turn into another road? The trek begins along there?
I believe the starting point as can be seen from wikimapia is here:
