Dr Oh Ei Sun: for the first time ever, a Sabahan is appointed Political Secretary to the Prime Minister

    July 3rd, 2009

As Sikmading blogged on 28th June, local Chinese newspaper Overseas Chinese Daily News (OCDN) reported it 5 days before the other mainstream papers did.

The appointment for the former student of Kian Kok Middle School was effective 16th June.

    Profile:

Name: Dr Oh Ei Sun [sounds like a Korean name, doesn't it?]

    Age: 35

Education: trained in law, management, engineering and the languages. Degrees: aeronautical & mechanical engineering & German. Double masters in science & international management. Juris Doctor (law).

Occupation: Academician, international speaker, trainer, motivator, consultant and entrepreneur.

    Experience:
    - includes serving various international and world bodies under the UN: International Telecommunication Union & Working Group on Emergency Telecommunications.
    - worked with various UN partner agencies, including the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, World Food Programme, International Civil Aviation Organisation, the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and UN Development Programme.
    - consulted for multinational & international companies
    - advised diverse SMEs on legal and business start-up issues.
    - adjunct professor with Universiti Malaysia Sabah

Language skills: fluent in 5: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, German & French.

His first mission, in his own words:

To promote the concept of 1Malaysia and engage in dialogue with more people from various backgrounds and communities. This is important towards understanding the pulse of the people, as well as to obtain feedback from the people. There is one element in 1Malaysia I feel most deeply about. It is about integrity, both in the public sector and the private endeavour. I would like to see more emphasis on this as we continue to promote 1Malaysia.

    Congratulations Dr Oh.

If I’m not mistaken, he is a blogger too right? (or a writer).
Always enjoyed his writings and journeys.

If he’s going to be the PM’s think tank, I’m picturing something good going to happen.

And yes, his name sounds Korean

Apparently former columnist for the New Sabah Times. I am not sure if he’s a blogger. Anyway, first step is to add him on Facebook.

J.D. is only considered a professional degree, not a PhD degree. J.D. is more like a first bachelor’s degree. In fact, there is no dissertation or defense of thesis necessary to get a J.D., unlike a PhD degree.

J.D. is definitely not recognised in Malaysia as a terminal PhD level degree, therefore it is wrong for Oh Ei Sun to continually refer to himself as a “Dr” in his biodata: http://www.i-insights.com/trainingoutline/bedecisive.pdf

I note that in the press article announcing Mr Oh’s appointment as political secretary, he is not referred to as “Dr”. He is referred to as “academician Oh Ei Sun”. Yet it seems that Oh Ei Sun likes to go around calling himself “Dr”, as in his biodata.

Would Mr Oh like to clarify and explain why he refers to himself as “Dr” in his biodata? It’s clear that he is not a real PhD level doctor.

I think people should not be deceived by him and calling him Dr whereas he’s not either a Medical Professional, Doctorate or PhD holder. If he really want himself to be a called Dr. He should at least studied for a PhD. Don’t think it would be difficult for him to get a doctorate or PhD at his level. Btw, i’m not sure it’s he himself calling himself doctor or people started calling him dr without knowing that JD is not at doctorate level.
