The month of July 2008 was quite windy. The Star reported that on the 5th of July 2008 18 houses on the west coast of Sabah had their roofs blown off due to heavy rains and strong winds which peaked at 4am and continued for 30 minutes.

itu hangin, turus dia bubut macam, oi ribut kuat, dia punya, tidak boleh kita berdiri, kita berebah, ah… kekuatan itu angin, maka dia punya ujan kuat juga, oi bukan main bah saya pun takut segara, macam saya terlari dalam ini rumah, macam saya takut rubuh saya punya rumah ini.

Rough translation:

the wind was so strong that one could not stand up; one had to keep low. It was accompanied by heavy rains. I was worried for the safety of my house.
