Sabahan swear words
May 4th, 2009Interest in swear words probably reached its peak in 1999 when arguably Malaysia’s most shocking book ever was published. Anybody could write the most expletive-laden book, but if the writer is a National Laureate, have won the National Literary Award and a university professor to boot, it surely will raise quite a few eyebrows.
I have read Dato’ Haji Shahnon Ahmad’s 1966 novel Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan cover to cover on many occasions and enjoyed it tremendously, so when he put his name to a book with a name like Shit @ PukiMak @ PM, it was impossible to resist.
Back to subject matter, the following words could also be found in other parts of the country, or even in neighbouring countries.
This is what I have heard people say or seen people write over the years.
This is strictly for “educational” purposes, don’t hold me responsible for any damages or injuries sustained after uttering these words in public!
The usual way of saying them is “ki”, followed by any of the following words:
(a) ma’ / mak
(b) mas
(c) mai
(d) tiang
(e) tai / thai
(f) ni’
(g) sing [is the intention to say "singh"?]
(h) ndit / ndet / ndat [possibly all variations of the same word]
Dengkos suggested the following:
(i) tiaw
(j) mbet
(k) ting
Any more I missed?

Bozo’s favourite is Kxxxxx punya chucu!!! and another version of ki- is ki followed by ndat!!!! why dont we change to less offensive tone like kisang, kili, kilimanjaro, kilas, kilat, kicopacabana, kinta kunte, kilang, kijang, kipang, etccccccccccc
LOL. I always laugh at that ‘kini’ word.
I also have a swear word which is ‘not so harsh’ (IMO) which is “pusitak”.
Does it sound harsh?
Doesnt sound too bad – how did that come about?
ranjau sepanang jalan by shahnon ahmad was one of the greatest novel written by the sasterawan negara….. i still remember the phrase – Lahuma…. Lahuma…. Lahumaa….. onak dan duri…… !!!!! excellent.. and what a name – Lahuma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It should be the greatest novel ever produced in Malaysia – it’s does not have a happy ending but rather tragedy.
I vividly remember the part where Shahnon Ahmad described how Lahuma got frustrated with his infected leg and ended up destroying it: nobody else can describe the furious emotions better.
Then how about the end when Jeha, his wife could not handle all the pressure and went insane?
I dont normally read novels, but that was a true classic.
there’s a new one, [edited: knowing the current situation, we don't want to get into trouble...]
