Sabah Bloggers Association established on 25th January 2009
February 4th, 2009Bloggers’ associations seems to have been around for some time.
In the US, the Media Bloggers Association (MBA) has been in existence since at least 2006, and is a “non-partisan voluntary association” that “supports the development of ‘blogging’ or ‘citizen journalism’ as a distinct form of media”.
However, the Singapore Bloggers Association is in trouble before it’s even launched.
In Malaysia, the Perak Bloggers Association seems to have existed since at least last year.
How about Sabah?
Back on 23rd August 2008, as a result of a newsreport in Daily Express it seems the general consensus is that there’s no need for such an association.
Well, a recent development is that local social activist and blogger Mutalib MD (probably most famous for his book “IC Palsu: Merampas Hak Anak Sabah” published 1999) mentioned that several bloggers had a meeting on 25th January 2009 and established the Sabah Bloggers Association.
Its objective is to [in its original language (Malay) so as not to lose the intended meaning] “memelihara kepentingan ahli mengikut Perlembagaan Persekutuan dan Perlembagaan Persatuan daripada kekekangan, penindasan dan layanan tidak adil daripada pihak berwajib.”
Activities would commence once the paperwork is done at the Registrar of Societies.
The pro-tem committee members are:
President: Mutalib MD [1] and [2]
Deputy President I: Ismail Mohd Rosli a.k.a. Endra
Deputy President II: vacant
Deputy President III: vacant
Vice President (Human Capital): Mohd Adlie Ayob
Vice President (Welfare): Maklin Masiau
Information Chief: Rozie Jumat
Treasurer: Hassnar Ebrahim
Secretary: Zainuddin Hassan
Assistant Secretary: Ibrahim Tabir
Committee Member – Economics Bureau: Kibin Samad
Committee Member – Social Bureau: Johnny Amit
Committee Member – Information Bureau: Datuk Halik Zaman [1], [2], [3]
Committee Member – Communications and Youth Bureau: Mohd Fadzly Eman
Address: Persatuan Blogger Sabah (PBS), LOT G59, Kompleks Asia City, Kota Kinabalu.
What are your comments on this development?
… by the way, I came across this news purely by coincidence – it’s not as if there’s a huge digital signage announcing the formation of the said association …

Interesting site. It will be in my list of fun to read blog…clearly it has some similar undertones to other sensational blogs. Very soon I’m sure it will be in the sights (if not already) of the authorities. Hence the problem when bloggers starts having an association. Everyone associated gets marked…hehe I really hope this association will not give other sabahan bloggers a bad reputation. I believe blogging is dynamic and collaborative in a non-associative way. Powered by the individuals for the community In the end the sum of all blogging expressions is the wisdom of the crowds.
alamak…. the lineup is quite controversial!!! Mutalib MD, Endra – this guy is from Tambalugu…, Johnny Amit???? i thought it was KODOU!!!! and last but not least – HALIK ZAMAN??? dulunya dikenali sebagai HARIMAU BERJAYA ketika pemerintahan parti Berjaya di Sabah…!!!!!!!!!!!!! mendapat nickname itu kerana perwatakannya yang bengis!!!!!!!!!!
Was Halik Zaman more “bengis” than the CM then?
Was he the guy that built houses for his wives all in one compound?
was he the guy whose datukship was stripped but he managed to retain it by poll deed (whatever this is) in a court of law?
Dommon,
Ya, he was the guy whose Datukship was stripped by the State Gov’t. After being asked to return his PGDK to the Istana, he went to a lawyer/court. Through a Deed Poll, Datuk Haji Halik Zaman became Haji Datuk Halik Zaman instead. What a joke! In those days, one could still do it. Now I am not sure.
disney & Dommon: I’ll let more knowledgeable persons answer that.
Well Halik Zaman, if he meet Harris Salleh – he himself bertukar jadi tidak bengis…!!!!! if you drive to KK from Lok Kawi – somewhere in Putatan left hand side ada rumah tepi jalan tertulis DHZ – maka itulah rumah Halik Zaman!!!!!!!!!!
Bebek,
If u want to read more about the colourful Halik Zaman and his relationship with Harris, please go to http://sikmading.blogspot.com. Go to my blog archive, then search for July-August 2007. Thank you.
I believe it’s this one:

Ben,
Thanks for the trouble and support. Cheers!
Halik Zaman?? heheheh many political people inside the committee, we stick to what we have now. remain anonymous
Well, based on their kind of writing, I think it’s good that they belong in a association to protect themselves.
These people just so happen to voice out their opinions using the blogging platform, and adding the word “Bloggers” in their association is simply not helping the reputation of bloggers who are already taped by the Malaysian government as online folks with malicious intent.
I hope I have nothing to do with this group.
Why do bloggers have to associated with politics? Not all of us talk about that topic..
easy to say.. ask them to CHANGE THAT NAME!
Sabah Political Bloggers Association sounds suitable for them.
I’m with Pai on that name. If its stick with its proposed name without the “political” word in between the Sabah and the the Bloggers, then I am not a blogger. I am with Lorna on this – I have nothing to do with this!
Honestly, without you mentioning this Ben, I have no idea who they are. Thanks for sharing. :)
i wonder how many official members of this PBS – persatuan Blogger Sbah..
but as for me, i belong to PBKMS – Persatuan Blogger yg Kuat Moginum di Sabah….!!!!!!!!!
Was looking for news about Sabah Bloggers Association and found this this. Why do bloggers even need an association? If you want to network, then do it. From what I gather, this association has no credentials with bloggers anywhere?
