You know you’re getting old when you’ve attended someone’s, and also his daughter’s wedding, 30 years apart

    November 30th, 2008

I remembered that day in 1980 quite well. David Ng @ Ah Chai got married.

Time flew by quickly, then last night I went to his eldest daughter’s wedding reception at a top restaurant in Kota Kinabalu.

Congratulations to Siong Huei and Debra!

I gathered that the groom, Siong Huei is from Johor Bahru.

During the course of the dinner, it was very interesting to note something that I think would only ever happen in Sabah, which showcases the high level of racial integration in this state.

The two names on the stage backdrop are obviously Chinese, but the first Chinese song being played or sung during the night was at 9.40pm. In contrast, Kadazandusun songs by popular local singer Francis Landong filled the air much earlier on (note: most of the earlier songs were English ones):

Impossible to count how many, because the waitress keep topping up after a few sips.

At 10pm, after going round all tables (perhaps more than 40) for yamseng, the bride and groom and their parents went up to the entrance to say goodbye to everybody. Everybody promptly lined up, leaving all the tables empty…

10 pm sudah habis????????? for me 10 pm is only the beginning – and at 11 pm – the magic mantra will come out – “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE EVENING HAS JUST BEGUN”!!!!!!!!

and as for tommy lee (motley crue) – he started drinking from 5 pm to 9 am!!!!!!!!!!!!! and by 10 am he passed out and only wake up around 4.30 pm and the continue the party!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, at 10pm “agenda keempat” will start but circumstances did not allow me to stay longer ;-)

Whoever wants to emulate Tommy Lee’s lifestyle must be suicidal!!!

21 is not old lah. In 1987 Ah Chai already had a few kids!
