What to do if your Maybank ATM card is disabled due to keying in the PIN wrongly too many times
September 24th, 2008I am not sure if this applies to all banks in Malaysia, but this happened to me last week with Maybank.
One of my accounts with Maybank is used exclusively for online banking.
Still, once in a while I’d need to withdraw cash from that account.
It so happened that I managed to key in the wrong PIN too many times, hence the card was blocked.
According to staff at Maybank Sadong Jaya, the card cannot be unblocked: a new card must be issued. For that to happen, I’d need to produce the “bank book” for that account. I figured that I’d get the card faster if I declared the “bank book” to have been lost (costs RM15). What he didn’t tell me was that I’d need to wait 24 hours after the new “bank book” is issued before I can get a new card.
What a waste of time and money.
I should’ve located the original “bank book” first, then go to the bank.

Not a wate of time but rather on the side of caution, IMHO.
In my case long time ago at another bank, I keyed in the wrong PIN 3x and my ATM card was swallowed by the ATM machine! To retrieve it from the bank, I just produced the passbook.
Blocking and unblocking are news to me though!
Yea, bank procedures are such….a good thing though…
In my case was a little bit different.. My Maybank Card became unusable. I brought the card to Maybank Lintas for checking. They found out that my card was blocked due to wrong pin entered more than 3 times. As my card was ripped a bit on the magnetic stripe, the guy there issued a new card for me. He didn’t ask for my bank book. He only checked my IC and thumb print. 15 minutes later, my new card was ready :D and I think that was so efficient of them
Really? I went to my home branch, and verified my IC & thumbprint there too, but still they wanted the bank book.
Dommon @ Gallivanter: I think that they should’ve warned me, before issuing the new bank book, that 24 hours needs to pass before I can get a new card.
Ben,
In this world of IT, I thought papers (book) are no longer necessary. Your experiences proved me wrong. I got to find my bank book, hoped I did not misplaced it at Kings Head, London.
Cheers
