Got transferred, moving office, heavier responsibility

    February 14th, 2008

After having been at my existing office for slightly less than 2 years, the boss decided that it’s time for staff reshuffle again.

My transfer was effective 1st February, so I have been in the new office for about 2 weeks.

Not that I’m not used to it: it must be my 5th transfer since I started, but I really miss my grand room and its view. At my old office I can see Sutera Harbour, the sea and the islands like so…

…while I had a huge table and floor-to-ceiling wood paneling:

At my new office, everything is brand new, but on a smaller scale, and as for the view, well, there’s no view at all :-(

At my old office I had 7 subordinates, about 2,000 users and 600+ computers.

At my new office I have 13 subordinates and practically the whole state to serve. Now, if only we have a memory foam mattress in the recreation room…

Oh yeaaa… Congrats Ben.. By the way, since your post coincided with the parliament and State Assembly dissolution, any offers to contest since bloggers are much in demand these days? Oh well, political issues aside, have a Happy Valentine’s Day Celebration to one and all…

    Jewelle & Oyce: thanks.

snow: there are thousands of bloggers in Malaysia, and apparently only Jeff Ooi got offer to contest. Even then, he also kena hantam by a veteran Penang DAP strongman. Truth be told, a few people have been asking me to consider contesting in elections for years already. But even if I got an offer to contest, I’d decline for now because my safety net is still too small :-) . And Happy Valentine’s to you too.

HOW COME THERE IS A SOFT DRINK CAN ON YOUR TABLE. AND HOW COME YOU ARE STILL USING A FAN – IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE AIRCON IN YOUR OFFICE????? DONT TELL ME THAT.. BECAUSE SABAH HAS BEEN ALLOCATED A HUGE 20 BILLION IN 9TH MALAYSIAN PLAN PLUS THE ANNUAL BUDGET…..

THE BIG QUESTION IS ? – HOW MUCH IS YOUR SALARY????????????? IS IT 5 FIGURE OR 6 FIGURE????

AND WHY NOT U CONTEST IN THE NEXT ELECTION – IF DLD CONTESTED TWICE IN 1976 AND 1990 – WHY DONT U????? WE KIULU FOLKS NEED A NEW AND FIERY FIGHTER FOR A NEW HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY IN KIULU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT WORRY – YOUR ELECTION FUND WILL BE AROUND 2 – 3 MILLION RINGGIT!!!!!!!!!!!

The soft drink can is there because I was taking a break in moving my things from the old office to the new office.

That office has a previously very efficient central aircon. The fan has always been there on standby, ever since I arrived at that office in March 2006. On 15th September 2007, in the middle of fasting month the central aircon failed and apparently the spare parts cost so much that it still was not fixed when I left in February 2008 (that’s about 4 months). No matter, a split unit was installed about a week before I left.

People earning 3-figure salaries dream of earning 4-figure salaries. People earning 4-figure salaries dream of earning 5-figure salaries. People earning 5-figure salaries dream of earning 6-figure salaries. People earning 6-figure salaries dream of earning 7-figure salaries. And so on…. as I said many times before, it will never be enough. I think we need to strike a balance between striving for more and being thankful for what we already have.

As for contesting, why not indeed?! There are many options in life and we are free to make our choices. And I have made mine.

Anyway, Congratulations on the promotion, Ben! :D :D About the view, well.. maybe you can buy a nice poster of an ocean or seaside and stick it on the wall. At least you have better view. *heehee*

BEBEK, a fulltime journalist, is used to writing his news story in caps before sending to HQ.

Poster is like… fake lah ;-) But anyway we’re going to put potted plants, perhaps create a mini garden. And get air purifiers. The new office is 80 ft x 63 ft (>4,500 sq ft). My room is a about 10′ x 15′.

Lemme guess, is it Dato’ K-1? I thought he was also shortlisted in 2004, hopefully this time it will become reality.
