Pictures of audio equipments at recording studio 2 of Universiti Malaysia Sabah

    January 12th, 2008

Our rock band Papier Mache did some re-recording of a few tracks for their upcoming debut album at the “new recording studio” at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on the 7th of December 2007.

The studio is located on the first floor of the university’s Sekolah Pengajian Seni (School of Art Studies) building.

The equipments are not as jaw-droppingly state-of-the-art (read: extremely expensive) compared to the other studio located on the basement (I took many videos and pictures of that last year) and the room was very cosy, only about 10′ x 10′ - much like a home studio, but still the equipments are top-notch.

All costs quoted below are originally in US Dollars, hence packing & transportation costs and any taxes are not included yet. Hence the final cost would be higher.

The biggest thing in the room is the Digidesign / Focusrite, Control|24, apparently costing more than RM24,000:

The microphone is an AKG C 414 B-TL II, not in production anymore, but still fetching more than RM2,000 at ebay:

The monitor speakers are Event Studio Precision [either 6 or 8] Active Monitors, which can cost up to RM3,000:

For software, it’s ProTools running on a Macintosh PC:

On the table on the left of the room is a Yamaha Motif ES6, a music production synthesiser / music workstation, apparently costing close to RM8,000:

A Behringer Ultra-G GI100 Active DI Box for guitar, apparently costing RM165:

On a stack there’s a Korg Triton Rack (about RM4,000), a Tascam DV-RA1000 audio DVD burner (about RM3,300), a Tascam CD-A500 CD/cassette player combo (about RM1,500). The 2 things at the bottom are part of the ProTools setup:

Then on another stack there’s a few multi-effects, voice synthesizer/sampler and drum module, with writings so small I didn’t bother looking them up:

Some members of the band in the room listening to their recordings and suggesting areas to improve, if any. Of course, with equipments like these, it sounded absolutely fabulous, even though mastering hasn’t been done yet:

The sound engineer, UMS music lecturer, Mr Azmel Satar:
