Dewa 19 will arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport tomorrow (14th Dec 2007), 5.35pm, VIP lounge

    December 13th, 2007

Thank you little bird. So you know what to do. Perhaps it’s the only chance to get close to Ahmad Dhani, Once and the gang.

For their first Malaysian tour, top Indonesian (Surabaya) rock band Dewa 19 (was known as simply “Dewa” between 2000 and 2004) chose of all places, Stadium Likas, Kota Kinabalu. Then it’s 3 different cities every day, then a 4-day break before the final concert at Stadium Negara.

Supporting acts: Dewi Dewi (Indon all-girl group), Jinbara, Ella: perhaps in that order of appearance. That would mean Dewa 19 will only take to the stage after 9pm?!

Leader, 2nd vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of the band: Ahmad Dhani Prasetyo, 35. Apparently a huge Queen fan:

This Ahmad Dhani guy is marvelous!
I followed his music since he was in his “Ahmad Band”.

And after Dewa19 fired Ari Lasso from their band,
Dewa19 has been perfected by Once @ Elfonda Mekel’s unique voice.

Haiya! Can’t imagine how crowded Stadium Likas will be

I won’t be so optimistic. If the Indonesian migrants here turn up in full force there might be a big crowd. If not it might be a mere whimper. Last time I read that the top Malaysian rockers combination of XPDC-Wings-Search attracted a paltry 1,000 at Likas Stadium. And during the height of Michael Learns To Rock mania in 1996 they did not fill Likas Stadium to the brim either.
