In 1991, two classic music albums were released: Nirvana’s “Nevermind” and …
December 8th, 2007…what else but the Singaporean album “Why You So Like Dat?” by Siva Choy and the Kopi Kat Klan. At that time, I was heavily into hard rock music and would never normally entertain anything without screeching guitars. The title track of the album didn’t have anything but drum machines and Singlish rapping, but something about it sticks, and a few days ago I heard it again for the first time in more than 10 years.
Do you still remember this?
Reading up on Siva Choy, I was quite surprised to learn that he’s a veteran blues musician, dubbed “The Godfather of the Singapore blues scene”, as well as a comedian and a newspaper columnist.

The rest of the tracks in the now out-of-print album are available for listening at usdudes.com.

Ha, I remember this song too but I know the “Nevermind” more because I happened to have that CD then :-)
Yes, I remember buying the Nirvana CD after seeing it getting a five star review in Kerrang! magazine which I read religiously then. I still have that CD 16 years on. What I regretted most is not going to their concert which was held right on my university campus then.
So he’s the one that sang that song aaaa?
Hahaha I love it! I heard the “Why You So Like Dat” years ago on the radio
and thought that it was sung by some DJ.
And Nirvana is why my first web e-mail address which is the one that I am still using now is cicakcobain [at] yahoo [dot] com.
Apparently no. From what I read, Siva Choy was the producer and all vocals done by the then totally unknown Kopi Kat Klan (maybe made up of 4 people?).
Thanks for reminding far 1991.
