Recommended (non-halal) breakfast joint: Restoran Wah Juan, Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu
September 28th, 2007Eatery-wise, it’s easy to know which ones are good and which ones to avoid, just by looking at the number of patrons it attracts.
Restoran Wah Juan of Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu is one of them.
Everytime I go past in the morning hours, weekdays or weekends, it is always overflowing: the seats are full and people are milling about outside waiting for their turn.
Usually I won’t have the patience to wait and simply go over to another place, but a few days ago (Monday the 17th) was a public holiday, so we decided to wait.
The noodles are as good as ever (RM4.50 per plate). I think one needs 2 plates to be satisfied as the first plate will be gone in no time.
For extra oomph, ask for the “kuah chu chap”:
My only grouse is the drinks - their “Nescafe kau ping” is, and has always been below average. However, to me, the best Nescafe kau ping in Kota Kinabalu can also be found in Tanjung Aru - on the KFC block, 2nd restaurant from the left as you drive in.

Why is this place suddenly so popular now?! I think I saw my sister reviewed this place also…ok, will check out this place when we go back
Coincidence - we happened to review the place at the same time!
emm… the drinks… the cups… hygine… are below par. But some people don’t care about that, coz sometimes you go there becoz you want to eat… the chu chap is great… memang great. And I only eat it with the kuah chu chap… I called it ‘lubricant’ coz it easier and tastier with it.
While waiting for your food… try checking how they prepare the food… you will notice they are puting some white stuff on the plate before the put the mee and mix it… almost one table spoon full… I hope it is not cocaine or syabu… lol
the pictures you show are the kon low men sasau… u try the kon low men chu chap lah… the inside stuff of the vogok… lol… I don’t really like eating those stuff outside my home… coz not sure how it was prepared…
I want to reduce my meat consumption already… I am surrounded by those things. I even went to the pig abbatoir in Inanam and took pictures…
LOL… i can imagine tat…
Yupp. Agree that the chu chap mee is very tasty.
When I first started work, I used to frequent that place every morning with Voo, Chin, Ting, James and Lee. Then the towkay father got sick and passed away. And all of us suddenly got scared to eat there and got ourselves a health check LOL. Now it has been years since I last patronised the cholesterol-enriched konomen there. Now the junior has taken over from the senior…
As Herr Swordie bomber mentioned, just look at how they prepare the sauce! Included on a per plate basis is ONE TEASPOONFUL of haji-no-motor…now aren’t that something to think about? LOL
Perhaps once in a blue moon should be okay …. lah.
I thought the badness of MSG is still controversial?
So that IS the place where the famous mee is from! I always have friends tapau it for me, but I never been there in the daytime to eat there myself!
Waaahhhh so sadap!! Uwaaaaa.. it’s midnight and I’m craving for those!!!!
i love the food here…so seldom go, so many people.
the white stuff what u saw is the MSG aka the ajinomoto..hehehe…no wonder everyone got addicted to it and get headache later….that includes me worrr….but still sadap bah the mee there….
