The only place in Kota Kinabalu where obscenity is allowed
July 20th, 2007Question: Where in Kota Kinabalu can you find a place where obscenity is displayed out there in the open, in full view of the general public including children, has been going on for years, and nobody ever does anything about it?
Answer: KFC Tanjung Aru
On the walls are illustrations of hand signs for each letter of the alphabet.
For the letter “T”, the illustration says you have to do it like this:
But….isn’t inserting the thumb between the fore and middle fingers of a closed fist is considered an offensive / obscene hand sign in Malaysian culture?
Someone told me it should be done this way instead:
Gallivanter has suggested a genius idea, to get rid of all this confusion, why not simply adopt Ultraman’s”fire” pose to represent the letter “T”? Thanks Daniel ![]()

I think there is a different version for both British English and American English right?
I am no authority on this, but apparently this “T” is American Sign Language (handspeak.com). For British Sign Language (britishsignlanguage.com), it looks totally different, and instead of one hand, 2 hands are used to convey alphabets.
Can’t we just adopt the famous T sign used by ULTRAMAN? It makes things less complicated…
You are a genius - I have stolen a pic of Ultraman and added it to the post.
Hahahaha. Ben u hit the nail with this hand fingers thing. I ever went to the tg Aru KFC and either i use the pic to communicate, or i write. they can read right?
worst case, show them that the dinasours are coming to town, and they need ultraman around to save them. Kekekeke.
So what is a bad sign in sign language?
During the Anwar case in the late 90s it was quite funny watching RTM1 because they had to translate “kes liwat Anwar” with sign language. Did you notice the sign language for “liwat” (sodomy)?
Alamak..I did not..
Alamak, I did not too!
What was the sign language for the “liwat”? The interpreter bent over? LOL! (ok, that wasn’t funny)
