Amazing contrasts: Malaysia vs Indonesia talkshows: how the host greets the guest
July 6th, 2007Empat Mata is a popular Indonesian talk show, shown on Trans7, a private Indonesian TV station. It is hosted by Tukul Arwana, 44 who reportedly gets paid RM8,000 per 90-minute episode. There are 5 episodes per week (Monday-Friday), 9.30pm - 11pm.
Watch how Tukul Arwana greets Betharia Sonatha, 45 (popular 1980s Indonesian singer, top song being “Hati Yang Luka”) starting at 1:50. In fact, he greets any female guest in a similar way.
Bonus: we get to see Betharia sing a little bit of “hati yg luka” live. I suppose the video was taken either early this year or late last year.
Can a talk show host in a Malaysian TV show (private or otherwise) ever get away with this kind of greeting?
To make it even more amazing, consider the fact that Indonesia has the world’s biggest Muslim population.

LOL! I love the way Tukul spoke. His way of explaining, communicating.. everything is so cute!
