    Dead professional wrestlers gallery

    June 30th, 2007

tmz.com published a gallery of dead professional wrestlers. It almost looks like a who’s who of wrestling. All dead before they turned 50. The least that this tells me is that: do not let your kids get into pro wrestling!

Some of those in the list, excluding Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit.

Andre the Giant, 46, WWF Champion, died 27th January 1993, heart attack.

Yokozuna, 34, WWF Champion, died 22nd October 2000, heart attack.

Bam Bam Bigelow, 45, died 19th January 2007, drug overdose.

Mr Perfect, 44, died 10th February 2003, drug overdose.

Big Boss Man, 42, died 22nd September 2004, heart attack.

Rick Rude, 41, died 20th March 1999, heart attack.

Owen Hart, 33, died 23rd May 1999, fell 50-ft from ceiling to ring floor - live.

Having said all that, some retired or semi-retired top wrestlers are still alive and well today:

    • Hulk Hogan, 54
    • Randy Savage, 55
    • Sgt Slaughter, 57
    • Ric Flair, 58
    • The Iron Sheik, 64
    • Paul “Mr Wonderful” Orndorff, 58
    • Rowdy Roddy Piper, 53

What a cool list. I wonder how come some of the wrestlers are gone. I watch WWF if I happened to hardly fall asleep at night haha. All of them are on drugs that’s why high risk of dying. Btw Chris Benoit also dead ?

You didn’t hear about Benoit? It was all over the news recently. Yes, he’s dead too (aged 40), hanged himself after apparently murdering his wife and young son.

Benoit’s case is still under investigation - toxicology report not out yet - it could very well be drugs related (roid rage?). Eddie Guerrero died in 2005 - at the age of 38 - also drug related if I remember correctly. Eddie and Chris apparently were the best of friends. My armchair journalism coverage of the Benoit death:
