Can this happen in Malaysia: thief wins damages for injury during theft
May 10th, 2007The Star reported on 20th April that in 2004 in Vancouver, Canada, Daniel Baines shoplifted razor blades worth about RM300 from a shop. He was then tackled by store guards, resulting in him losing a tooth. In true North American fashion, he sued. The result: he was awarded RM36,000 for the injury, more than 100 times the value of the goods he stole. I don’t think fixing a tooth will cost that much.
